finally in the motherland

I've always been fascinated by Russian history, especially the rise and fall of the Soviet Union, and I've always wanted to be able to go to Russia.  I wasn't necessarily planning on coming so close to a time of domestic tension, but, that's the way the schedule worked out, so we'll see how the next two days go.  I just got back from my first day in the city and, before I finally go to bed after many hours of traveling, running around town, being goofy with crew and band-mates, tasting some good Russian food (Borscht=YUM!), and braving the metro system enough to even nearly trick two band mates into getting off at the wrong stop, I'll post some pictures.

One of my favorite moments so far was one of our hosts from the promoter, Svetlana, telling me that she thought I was a local, or at least Eastern European, when she saw me.  Maybe that's why that old lady kept talking to me after I jumped out of my seat in the Metro, realizing a moment too late that I was the one who was to give her my place!  More to come after a full day out tomorrow.

Making it to Red Square after years of wanting to.

Even in Moscow.  Saw two of these so far.

breakdancing in moscow

Got a little of the Moscow street dancing scene with some poppers and b-boys layin' it down.  Great to see creativity blossoming in a place where it was discouraged for so long.

Not sure if we're excited to be there, delirious after being up for over 24 hours, having too much fun with each other, or are losing it after working together for too long.  Great hang with these guys today and always--(from left) Alex, me, Terry, Angel, Ric, and (not pictured) Eric.
